Alfa Romeo drives athletes to more success in 2010 - 22/04/2010
Alfa Romeo continues its partnership as ‘Official Car Supplier’ to UK Athletics (UKA) for the fourth consecutive year, providing a fleet of vehicles for coaches, staff and medallists. As part of their commitment to UKA, Alfa Romeo offer British athletes an added incentive for a podium finish at major championships, with the promise of a new Alfa Romeo car.
Team GB athletes including Kelly Sotherton, (Heptathlon), Phillips Idowu (triple jump) and Germaine Mason (high jump), have all received Alfa Romeo cars following stirling performances.
The 2010 outdoor athletics season will kick off with the Aviva European Trials and UK Championships in Birmingham on June 25.The highlight of the 2010 calendar, however, is sure to be the inaugural IAAF Diamond League, where Britain will play host to two of the 14 meetings - at Gateshead in early July (Aviva British Grand Prix) and Crystal Palace in August (Aviva London Grand Prix).
With a total prize-money of US$6.63 million on offer, the Diamond League is set to attract some of the biggest athletics stars in the world, including Double World Record Holder Usain Bolt and fellow 100m rivals, Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell.
The 2010 season will culminate with the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Delhi from October 3-14.
